This is a night shot i've been wanting to take for a while, and did try (and fail to get the proper exposure) a while ago, and tried again just last weekend, as i was scouring the city together with ~mmmmiko and her friend Kaela.
This is one of the most picturesque locations in the heart of Amsterdam, where you can get the all-in-one shot of Amsterdam canal + boats + church. Despite being one of the most secular cities in Western Europe, where it seems religion has made way for some form of liberal atheism, the churches that are scattered among the city still form a crucial part of its skyline, as well as provide the traditional hourly chimes and occasional melodies. This is what the title refers to...the churches in Amsterdam are the last bastions of faith in the city. Info: f/8, 30 sec Post-prod: The white balance of the D70 was set to warm, which accounts for the reds and yellows in the lights along the canal. I adjusted the color balance in the top of the shot to cool down the night sky, to give it a nice blue. As if i was using a polarizer filter enjoy... edit: i uploaded the original version as scrap, as requested by a friend. She prefers the original. I'm curious to see if anyone else does. |

btw, I love the composition, the eye is well guided from the water to the sky by this symmetry and the position of the building
Well done man !

The magic of photography is metaphysical. What you see in the photograph isn't what you saw at the time. The real skill of photography is organised visual lying.

only thing it does not seems perfectly straight...
